After three years of the pandemic, although the world seems to have returned to normal, what can be seen is that, despite living in a modern society with technology and artificial intelligence, humans, in response to the uncertainties brought by the pandemic and the resulting unknown anxieties and fears, often appeal to religious rituals, divination ceremonies, or mind-body-spirit therapies beyond scientific explanations. They hope to glimpse into the future and the unknown, seeking solace for their souls.
The Treasure Hill Light Festival is held annually from the last week in March to early May. Eight to 10 art creators from Taiwan and abroad are invited to redefine the form and meaning of light together with the public through different research and creation methods such as technology, academic theory, religion, fieldwork, and mysticism.
About this unique location; Treasure Hill Artist Village (THAV) / 寶藏巖國際藝術村 is a historical community located along the Xindian River. Treasure Hill was listed in 2011 as the first “historic settlement” of Taipei City. Originally an illegal settlement, it was founded by the Kuomintang military veterans at the end of the 1940s and served originally as an anti-aircraft position.
Over twenty years of demonstrations and activism by locals persuaded the city to preserve the area, and it was turned into an "artist village" with studios and exhibition spaces. Artists from Taiwan and abroad live alongside ordinary residents. In 2004, the Taipei City government designated the once illegal settlement a historical site, with the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs in charge of its refurbishment beginning in 2006.
The hillside neighborhood was lauded by a 2006 New York Times report as one of Taipei’s must-see locations.

Penghu International Fireworks Festival
Penghu is an archipelago of 90 islands and islets in the west of the Taiwan Strait, a popular summer destination for the locals while still less known to international travellers.
The islands boast uncrowded pristine beaches attracting summer vacations seeking beach time, fishing, and snorkeling with green turtles. And thanks to the strong wind creating big waves, surfing and windsurfing are popular water activities.
The Penghu International Fireworks Festival is held from May to July every year in Guanyinting Park and several of Penghu’s well-known outlying islands.
The beautiful fireworks complement the unique bay environment and the romantic Xiying Rainbow Bridge. In addition to the dazzling fireworks, many well-known artists and local performance groups perform on stages, allowing visitors to enjoy a leisurely and romantic atmosphere.

The main venue of the Penghu Fireworks Festival happens on the main island of Magong at Guanyin Pavilion Park or Guanyinting 觀音亭, fireworks will set to begin at 21:00PM on Mondays and Thursday, through May 2nd to July 30th, except June 1st, June 15th, July 28th and July 30th.

Are you a dancer, MC/rapper, DJ, or graffiti artist who wants to take your skills to the “next level” and learn from accomplished American hip hop artists? Now’s your chance! Next Level Academy Taiwan is open for registration until April 15.
This U.S. Department of State exchange program will bring a team of hip hop artists from the United States to Taiwan to teach a series of 10 intensive workshops on topics including arts skill-building, entrepreneurship and conflict transformation – all for free! The workshops will take place from 7-9:30 pm from May 20 through May 31 at the Taoyuan Arts Center, and will conclude with a final concert performance at the Chung-Yuan Cultural and Creative Park on June 1. Selected Taiwan participants may be chosen to participate in a future hip hop exchange program to the United States!

Broadway musical - Miss Saigon
"Miss Saigon," considered one of the four major great Broadway musicals of the 20th century, along with Les Miserables, Cats, and Phantom of the Opera, will come to Taiwan for the first time. It will tour four cities in northern, central, and southern Taiwan starting in May.
The show's promoter in Taiwan Kuang Hong Arts Management (KHAM), said in a press release that what sets "Miss Saigon" apart from other musicals is its realistic stage settings. During the performance, the audience will experience thunderous sounds as a lifelike helicopter descends from above.
The full-length Broadway musical "Miss Saigon" will be performed :

The festival has been held each summer for ten weeks since 2011. Its center is the beautiful Taitung County’s Luye Plateau, located among the picturesque mountains in Taiwan’s enchanting East Rift Valley. Spring Scream Kenting is back!!
Rock out at Kenting’s Spring Scream (春吶), one of the largest and most renowned music festivals in Asia. Founded in 1995 by two Americans, Jimi Moe and Wade Davis, the festival is “held by musicians and for musicians” – dedicated to providing a stage for the music community.

2024 Miaoli Dragon Bombing Evening (Banglong)
Dragon Bombing evening in Miaoli
The event is a traditional Hakka ritual believed to bring good luck for the coming year, with spectators "bombing" the dragon with firecrackers at the peak of the performance. The Hakka tradition is held during the Lantern Festival every year and involves performers maneuvering a dragon as people shoot off firecrackers near them.

Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival (Tainan)
Taiwan’s most legendary cultural festival, where people vie to be bombarded by exploding clusters of fireworks.
The Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival is a well-known folk activity that creates quite a stir during Taiwan’s Lantern Festival, attracting thousands of tourists every year. Together with the "Pingxi Sky Lanterns," the festivals are known as “lanterns in the north, beehive fireworks in the south.” The beehive fireworks have been an event for almost 150 years. The original purpose was to drive away a plague. It has since become a top-10 celebration in Asia, and famous throughout the world.
Fifteen days into the Chinese lunar calendar, on the evening of the Lantern Festival, the district launches millions of fireworks directly into eager crowds. Thousands don motorcycle helmets and protective gear, take a swig or two of liquid courage, and take to the streets for a chance to be battered by explosions. At this festival, nearly catching fire is considered a good thing.
Far from being just a burn threat, a rocket trapped inside a helmet can cause temporary hearing loss or permanent blindness. Nevertheless, people from all across Taiwan continue to travel to Yanshui for a shot at some luck of their own.
Know Before You Go
The Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival occurs 15 days into the Chinese lunar calendar each year. It can be disorienting for outsiders, and public transport from Tainan City to Yanshui district is complicated. For the best possible experience, try to attend with someone who is a festival veteran. In addition, visitors who would like to come away with functioning sensory organs should plan to wear flame retardant clothes, a scarf, gloves, and a full face motorcycle helmet.

If you plan to enter the firecraker zone in the sports field of Yanshui Junior High, you must wear full protective gear (as shown in the photo).
After you reach downtown Yanshui, you will find vendors selling thick jackets, helmets and gloves.
